Ovi Store Game: Capjong Review

Capjong is a delightfully colourful Ovi Store puzzler. The aim is to clear the screen of matching blocks in as little time as possible rack up high scores and progress to the next level. Any good? Find out in our Capjong review.

Browse the Ovi Store game section and you’ll find lots of block blasting and combo style games, so naturally we downloaded Capjong with some trepidation. Resembling others like it, Capjong involves, to repeat the Ovi Store description of it: ‘blasting the blocks when two or more blocks of the same colour are next to each other’.

Sure enough, that’s exactly what you do. Getting into the action, you’re met with a screen full of blocks. You simply tap groups of same coloured blocks to make them disappear, and make the rest of the blocks drop down till there’s either as few as possible, or they’re all gone, before being told your high score.

It works well enough. And the presentation is pleasing on the eye, with its bright visuals and clear, if not very basic menus, but the gameplay is more than a tad too basic. There’s almost no skill needed to play Capjong -  just a quick glance reveals all the matching blocks you need to tap to make disappear. As a result, levels are over in seconds.

The above doesn’t make Capjong a terrible game, just a ridiculously easy, not very challenging game. Another gripe is that we initially couldn’t locate the career mode, only to find it hidden in the difficulty section. It’s a separate mode letting you move onto proceeding levels, so we’d have liked to have seen it as a separate option. It’s a minor gripe.

Overall Capjong is a pleasant enough offering, but it’s basic gameplay, easy difficulty and lack of variety stops it being something you’re likely to repeat play after a few goes. It does its job, but there’s better out there, such as Monsterilla.
