Ovi Store Game review: Fony3D Elements

Fony3D Elements is an isometric style platformer with a weird name that has you ambling through levels grabbing as many points at possible whilst avoiding monsters, obstacles and traps. It’s available for free now on the Ovi Store. But is it any good? Read our Fony3D Elements review to find out.

It might have a silly name, but there is something about Fony3D Elements that makes it stand out intriguingly from other Ovi Store titles, for both good and bad. You take control of the cylindrical Fony. We’re not quite sure what he is, but he looks like a piece of Lego without a body.

From the moment you start the game you know you’re in for a ‘different’ experience. Jumping into the game you control the action from an isometric perspective that rotates depending on the direction you make Fony walk in. A decent effort has clearly been made to create a world worth exploring, albeit in a linear fashion. There isn’t much to the gameplay at all. You walk along paths collecting points and power-ups while avoiding enemies. It’s like Pacman from a different perspective. There’s even a power-up letting you eat the enemies for a short period of time. Other goodies also let you become invisible, and impervious to enemies for a time. Later levels see you contending with enemies and the landscape. There are soon plenty of obstacles to avoid.

Unfortunately Fony3D Elements is nowhere near as fun as Pacman. The controls are awful, with the directional buttons placed about as far as they can possibly be on a touchscreen. Playing Fony3D Elements on an N97 you always have to stretch your fingers just to change direction. Fast movements and enemy avoiding becomes incredibly tough. There’s challenging, and there’s challenging, but here you feel like you’re constantly fighting against the controls. The graphics are also outdated, but as it’s a free game, we won’t hold that against Fony3D Elements too much.

Fony3D Elements could have been great, instead it’s just a semi-decent game with poor controls. The thought is clearly there, but it lacks in execution. As intriguing as it is upon start up, it’s one worth avoiding until better touchscreen controls are in place.

MazeLock for Symbian s60 offers an innovative way to unlock your touch screen phone.
Watch carefully the default unlock pattern when you start the application!
Set first your own unlock pattern by connecting some of the nine white dots together (There is a default unlock pattern pre setted). When you try to unlock your phone, you need to draw the same pattern exactly as you set.

You can also protect your side bar slider key -- double click the menu key to lock the phone. When the phone is locked, single click the menu key to show you the lock screen with large time display, if you only want to glance at the time, signle click the menu key again to turn off the light to save the battery!

The lock screen can be easily configured according to your own preference: you can download plenty of backgrounds for free, the date and time display can be changed, the color of the text is also configurable.

Pachee for Symbian s60 5th edition is a classic (as in, from the 4th century AD, rather than ‘that’s well classic’) Indian boardgame, otherwise known as pachisi and parcheesi.
The original game is widely considered to be one of the national games of India, playing out much like ludo only with cowry shells rather than dice and two teams racing each other to the finish.

Ovi Store App Review: Auto Trader Mobile

If you’re in the market for a new car, Auto Trader can be an invaluable resource, but you have to act fast. Auto Trader Mobile is now available through the Ovi Store, and it could make the difference between you missing at and you finding the car of your dreams. Auto Trader Mobile is an application version of Auto Trader’s website, with thousands of used cars and bikes available to browse and buy.

Once you’ve installed Auto Trader Mobile, click Yes to allow connection to network, and the app will be able to retrieve listings on used vehicles from the internet. One of the big benefits of Auto Trader Mobile, is that it promises to let you call sellers straight from the application. That may seem like a small point, but it could be the difference between getting your dream vehicle, and missing out by minutes.

As with the Auto Trader website, you’ll be able to select from pre-defined search criteria, with drop down menus for the vehicle make and model. You’ll also be able to select the distance you’re willing to travel, the minimum price and the maximum price.

An advanced search option lets you select other details – including the engine and transmission type, the mileage, private and trade sales, and the ability to search for key words.

Using your Nokia’s hardware to the best of its abilities, the Auto Trader Mobile app can even use the GPS chip to determine your location – so you won’t even have to enter your post code when selecting a distance.

Once you’ve entered all the details, simply click the large Search button at the bottom of the page. It takes a couple of seconds while the app retrieves data, but you’ll then be offered a list of all the vehicles for sale.

There’s a thumbnail photograph on the left, the exact model of car listed, a price and the distance from your location.

Click on one of the cars or bikes, and you’ll be taken to the advert itself. Everything is well laid out, uncluttered and easy to read, and along with the seller’s number at the top, there’s also a button to ‘Call Seller’. Tap it, and your Nokia will ring the seller without exiting the app.

Overall, Auto Trader Mobile is an excellent app. You’re unlikely to use it a lot – unless you buy and sell cars for a living – but it is a lot quicker and easier than trying to navigate the web.
